Hi, I’m Jocelyn
I've spent my career building community at companies that were figuring it out for the first time (or trying again after it didn't work). Along the way, I've landed on a few things I keep coming back to:
Be intentional about who, what, and why. Clarity is what makes people feel safe enough to show up and contribute, and it's what makes community make sense to the business. That doesn't happen by accident.
Community is the people, not the platform. Tools matter, but they're not the thing. The thing is the trust people build with each other.
Build with your community, not for them. If I'm not sure what to do next, I ask. The best programs I've built started with a conversation, not a roadmap.
I live and breathe community. Outside of my day job, I co-lead The Community Community, a nonprofit for senior community professionals.
When I'm not thinking about community strategy, you'll find me exploring new bakeries, chasing sunshine, or walking my corgi Spirit (or all three at once).
We’re based in the San Francisco Bay Area — Oakland, to be precise. I moved to the Bay for college (Go Bears! 🐻) and jumped around a bit before landing back in the East Bay.
